Simple answer: to graduate. At least that’s what most college students know. An indispensable and not eternally postponable requirement that must be fulfilled to obtain the degree, for which the student enrolled in the university. Although there is a part of truth, we can not think that this is the primordial end of the thesis, almost seen as a cruel punishment of the academy.

There are fears and myths that are passed from generation to generation of students as a kind of tradition of the terror of the thesis: it is a very complicated and difficult research or the research of a thesis has nothing to do with everyday life.

If it were true nobody would graduate, there would be no professionals and the university would be a waste of time. In addition, research is a fundamental part of the development and evolution of humanity, everything that man has discovered or invented has started from an investigation. All professions require research for their own functioning, from mathematics to art.

Doing a thesis is a valuable opportunity to use what has been learned in the career, but not as a mere exhibition of acquired knowledge, but as the implementation of the acquired capacity to propose solutions through a specific communication method.

Although the experience in the university has not been entirely positive, the thesis is the personal opportunity to transform the study experience is a valuable learning resource for others and for oneself.

Of course, the thesis also implies the reach of an optimal level of professionalization that guarantees the student to devote to a specific work activity. It involves an effort of specialization and improvement in an area of knowledge and can even mean the reach of the academic peak, in the case of doctoral theses.

The complexity and breadth of the thesis will depend on the level of study and the degree of maturity of the student, the less complex theses are usually those of bachelor’s degrees, while master’s and doctoral theses require much more time and dedication.

In the case of the undergraduate or bachelor thesis the topics are, in general, much more modest and what is really required is to show that the aptitude has been acquired to investigate a subject, analyze the data and present in an orderly manner and consistent the information obtained, so that it can be useful for another person in the same area of study.

Many students make the mistake of leaving the thesis until the last moment, when the terms of the university are about to expire and they intend to write a paper in a few weeks, obviously if they do it the work would be mediocre. The only thing you need to face the thesis is the willingness to do serious work and dedicate a few hours a day to study. The results, besides the title, are certain intellectual satisfactions that will serve for the professional future.

It may be that once the thesis is over we forget the subject and we lock the work, but that is not relevant. What is really important in the thesis is the experience of the work done and, finally, the pleasure of one’s work and the intellectual reward for effort.

The thesis is during the race and after it a process of personal maturation that can continue to bear fruit if the student so wishes. Right the words of the writer Umberto Eco: “Without that first job I would not have learned to do the rest”

Our intention is to encourage you not to abandon the process and not to think that the thesis is a necessary evil, just the opposite with it you can perfect your qualities and be more prepared for the work field.
